For more than two decades, Dr. Herrero has been involved in R&D roles in the telecommunications and industrial control sectors, at both established corporations and emerging startups. His focus has been on communication systems, particularly in the context of Real-Time Communications, with an emphasis on 3GPP, non-3GPP, and IoT networks. This work has led to the design and deployment of end-to-end communication solutions, including network protocol standardization.

As a result of these efforts, Dr. Herrero has been granted over 30 United States patents, authored more than 50 scholarly papers published in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, and has written three books. Among these works is the publication of “Fundamentals of IoT Communication Technologies” (Springer Nature, 2021), a book that delves into cutting-edge protocol stacks and communication methods for the Internet of Things. Dr. Herrero remains actively engaged in the standardization of networking and communication protocols.

In academia, Dr. Herrero has assumed instructional roles at Northeastern University, the University of Massachusetts (Lowell), and Southern New Hampshire University. His teaching focus has centered around subjects such as communications, signal processing, software engineering, and cybersecurity, all of which have been applied to conventional 3GPP, non-3GPP, and IoT networks.

Dr. Herrero’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, where he concentrated on communications and signal processing. He also earned his B.S. degree from the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology (ITBA) and his M.S. degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), both in Electrical Engineering.
