After graduating from the National Taipei Institute of Technology in Taipei, Taiwan in 1980 with a B.S. in Electronic Engineering, Min-Shiang Hwang went on to earn an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan in 1988, and a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan in 1995. From 1984 to 1986, he also pursued his studies in Applied Mathematics at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. In 1988, Dr. Hwang passed the "Electronic Engineer" national higher examination. In 1990, he also qualified as an advanced technician in the first class after passing the National Telecommunication Special Examination in the field of "Information Engineering". He oversaw the Computer Center of Telecommunication Laboratories (TL), Ministry of Transportation and Communications, from 1988 to 1991. From 1999 to 2002, he also served as chairman of the information management department at Chaoyang University of Technology (CYUT), in Taiwan. In 2002–2003, he served as chairman and professor in the Graduate Institute of Networking and Communications at CYUT. He worked for National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) as a professor from 2003 to 2007, a distinguished professor from 2007 to 2011, and the chairman of the department of management information systems from 2004 to 2009. In 2009 and 2010, he also served as a visiting lecturer at UC Riverside and UC Davis in the United States. From 2011 until 2015, he served as dean of Asia University's College of Computer Science. He was the recipient of National Science Council (Taiwan) Distinguished Research Awards in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. At present, he holds the positions of Chairman of the Sina Smart Computing Institute, Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Network Security (EI Compendex), and Chair Professor at Asia University's Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. He belongs to the Chinese Information Security Association, IEEE, and ACM. Information security, electronic commerce, databases and data security, cryptography, picture compression, and mobile computing are some of his current research interests. In international journals, Dr. Hwang has published more than 200 articles on the aforementioned study topics.
